The family of Jean Christine Horgan announced with profound sadness that she passed peacefully from this life on August 27th surrounded by her beloved family. She will be celebrated and always remembered as a radiant, positive, compassionate, empathetic, accepting and loving soul that touched all that knew her.
Jean was born in 1964 in Schenectady, NY, to Jean and Francis (“Dutch”) Horgan, and grew up in Bellevue. After college (Cobleskill/SUNY Albany)she remained a lifelong resident of the city. She worked in the fields of financial and legal services while cherishing her role as mother.
Jean was more than a mother, daughter, sister, wife and friend; her presence and home was a sanctuary for those she befriended. There was always a warm, safe place for everyone full of understanding and devoid of judgement at Jean’s. She had a rare gift for meeting people where they were and having them feel seen, heard, and loved. Jean’s compassion and understanding knew no limits. Whether comforting a stranger, standing beside a friend in need, or quietly performing countless acts of charity and kindness, she lived her life in service to others. She never sought praise or recognition but only hoped to bring peace where there was pain and light where there was darkness.
She always saw the best in people, believed in second chances, and trusted that kindness could change the world, and it often did. Her legacy lives on in the memories she molded, the kindness she shared, and the light she gave us to carry.
Jean was predeceased by her loving parents, Jean and Francis Horgan. She is survived by her beloved son Alexander D’Amato of Boston, and his father David D’Amato of Schenectady,NY; her siblings Stephen (Catherine) Horgan of Sandy Springs, GA; Maryellen (Thomas Currier) of Norfolk, MA; and Daniel J. Horgan, Esq. (Tracy) of East Lyme, CT; her nieces and nephews Kathleen Frank (Drew), Adelaide Horgan, Riley Horgan, Christopher Currier, Connor Horgan, and Brendan Horgan; and dozens of cousins and dear friends. She is also survived by her aunts, Patricia Sances, Barbara Brissenden and Patricia Horgan of Boston, MA.
We invite you to honor Jean’s life through acts of kindness and always leave a light on. A Celebration of Life will be held on a future date in Schenectady.
