Schenectady

Donna Lynn Smith Boyd went home to be with the Lord on the morning of Sunday, December 3, 2023 at Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY. She was born in Jubilee Hospital in Henderson, NC to the late David and Bettie E. Smith. She was a loving, meek and mild person but extremely private.

 Donna attended school in New York City, Henderson, NC eventually graduating from Washington Irving Adult Learning Center in Schenectady, NY in 2020. Upon graduating she not only received her GED but was recognized by the Mayor of Schenectady for her accomplishment and went on to receive her medical assistant certificate from Schenectady County Community College in 2020. She started her work career at the age of 16 working for Refreshing Springs Daycare. At that timeshe gave her life to Christ and joined the Refreshing Springs COGIC in Schenectady, NY. Throughout the remainder of her life she continued working inhospitality services at the Saratoga Race Track, Great Escape, SUNY Albany and Scotia-Glenville High School. Later in her life she joined Metropolitan New Testament Missionary Baptist Church where she was an active member of the Home Mission and the Pastor’s Aide Ministry. Donna loved the Lord and devoted her life to doing ministry at her church as well as outside in various communities.

Donna was predeceased by her parents, a daughter :Sandra Smith and Wilma Harris, sisters Beverly Smith Ahmed and Judy Smith. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband Ken Boyd, a son Dexter Boyd, two daughters, Diona Lynn Smith, and Charmian Rae Smith, of Schenectady, NY, four brothers, David A. Smith, Sr. of Schenectady, Steven W. Smith (Monica), California, Kenneth Smith (Nevada), Michael Smith, New Jersey, grandchildren, Jonathan Ryals, Schenectady, NY, Shareema Smith, Raleigh, NC, Rae Marie Smith, Schenectady, NY, LaRay Bratton, Ithaca, NY and 3 great-grandchildren PrinceJonathan Ryals, Aleena Ryals of Schenectady, NY and Kayden Smith, of Raleigh, NC and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and special in-laws Walter Lee and Irene Boyd.a Dear friend Rita.

A homecoming celebration will be held on Wednesday at 11 AM at Refreshing Springs Community Church 327 Georgetta Dix Plaza

Schenectady. A calling hour will precede the celebration from 10 to 11 AM.
